What's your tip for Inversionist??
I've been struggling for a while.
Just so you know, I don't use instruments when I play Tonegym usually. So if you have any strategies without instrument, I'd love to hear.
Have a nice week anyways!
Best!

I have a tip that has been working for me-- it's just in the way they 'feel' to me...

-Root reminds me the intro to: Why Can't We Be Friends, by War.

-1st inversion reminds me of: Lean on Me, by Bill Withers.

-2nd inversion sounds like a mix of the two.

Hopefully you are familiar enough with those songs for it to trigger in your brain when you hear them. Good luck! :)

Oh wow. Lean on me really sounds inverted.lol
But War's song is not clicking compare to Lean on me..
Thank you so much though!
So you don't think about intervals in a same chord?
like Oh C major triad? But the lowest note has more intervals to second lowest note than Root triad... something like that??

It's the sound of the very first chord in the War song that hits it for me with the Root sound.

I do think about that too! But I felt like that was more of what's actually going on than a tip. I believe in the root position it's stacked thirds: a minor & a major 3rd. In 1st inversion, it's a minor 3rd and then a perfect fourth, in 2nd inversion it's a perfect fourth and then a minor 3rd.

Ohhhh I might understand why you picked “why can’t we be friends” now..
I’ll do in the way from now on!
Thank you Brian!!

Oh can I ask you one more thing?
What about minor and diminished??lol
Any songs you use or you can still use those two songs and feel it??

I don't have particular songs for those, but I have some bodily movements/facial expressions that I think of, ha! Bear with me, because these get more abstract 😜

Minor is sort of a longing feel, like tilting your head and looking off into the distance to remember your lost love.

Diminished is sort of uneasy, like the cringe face while tip toeing across eggshells trying not to crack them.

Augmented is more evil or sinister, like Dracula walking into the room and raising his hand with a commanding twist.

I'm a little weird, I know, but it works for me 😊

You can use the Chord Player in the Tools, to go back and forth to hear the differences too, that helps.

Hey! We do art. No one is weird under music world imo!lol
More than that, it’s really helpful and interesting. I actually noticed that I often make face reactions when people play out of diatonic scale especially improvisation parts. So I’m looking forward to try your method!
Thank you again Brian!

The human ear is sensitive to top notes, so it is a prerequisite to actively play games that distinguish between interval and two-tone chord types in order to cultivate an ear sensitive to intervals, the two attributes of major and minor chords, and perfect pitch.

As you gain more experience with this, you will be able to isolate one tone or two or more groups of tones, which will make it easier for you to make a guess.

As a concrete clue, the perfect fifth degree is more prominent in the no-transposition, the perfect fourth degree in the first transposition, and the minor third or major third in the second transposition than in the no-transposition.

Since listening to inverted chords and transcribing is one of the more difficult tasks, it is recommended to download free MIDI files created by professional composers and performers and analyze them in parallel to speed up the pace of improvement of your identification ability.

By the way, you can easily check the sound by using synths or samplers in smartphone apps or free plug-ins for PC.
