Ok, coming from SoundGym I was like OK, a bit of music training is cool. These exercises are terribly thought through for a beginner. Like if you are still learning intervals and a game asks you to memorize a sequence and repeat the notes with only one chance at hearing it, that’s kinda rigid and makes it no fun.
I think maybe some games are more fundamental, such as departuer lander and chordealus, while other games such as the melody games were created to keep more advanced people engaged in learning. I do agree that it is hard to not have the range of correct answers, however ToneGym will probably end up feeling easier in the end, as there are more levels that a normalish human can pass in the games. Keep at it! Good luck training!
to be blunt: this is a website for ear training, not teaching basic music theory.
the exercises assume a basic level of experience, because they aren't meant to teach those things. there's no reason for this site to teach those things because they are different aspects of musical knowledge and practice.
it's like trying to study physics without knowing math.
there are already a ton of free resources for learning basic functional theory. if you have 0 practical experience with an instrument or singing this website is not going to do much of anything for you.
if you want to learn these things, you'd be best served learning some foundational theory and coming back to the exercises.
